Under Parallel Skies (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
How Do Parin & Iris Met?
Parin’s story is a rough one. Just one look at him says it all: life has taken a toll. He’s unkempt, his beard’s grown out, his hair’s messy, and his clothes are far from fresh—as if he’s stopped caring altogether. In short, Parin is a shadow of the man he used to be. Back in the day, though, Parin was the guy everyone noticed. Handsome, dressed in sharp suits and shades, with a family fortune backing his lifestyle, he’d travel the world like it was his playground. Everything changed when he met Iris in Hong Kong. She worked at the fancy hotel he was staying in. Their first meeting was memorable, to say the least. Parin was beyond drunk, and Iris had to practically carry him to his room. This wasn’t exactly a picture-perfect start. However, it was a moment that neither of them would forget.
Call it fate or just luck, but Parin and Iris kept crossing paths during his stay at the hotel. They hit it off, too, and even ended up having a meal together when Iris surprised him with Pad Thai, though she didn’t realize it was actually Thai, not Indonesian! From there, Parin managed to persuade her to check out “Little Thailand” with him, promising amazing street food and a bit of adventure. But there was more to Parin’s trip than good food because he was really in Hong Kong to find his mother, who had vanished from his life with nothing but a goodbye letter on the table. He didn’t share this with Iris, though. Instead, the two spent hours wandering Hong Kong together, with Iris thinking they were just sightseeing while Parin was quietly scanning every corner, and asking around to learn anything about his mother.
Over time, Parin started looking forward to being around Iris. Her outlook on life was refreshing, to say the least. He admired how hard she worked, always giving her best to make sure everyone around her felt good. Like, when a friend faced family trouble, Iris didn’t hesitate to cover their entire weekend shift without a second thought. Even when life threw curveballs, she rarely got down or lost hope. Iris was the kind of person who could light up a room just by walking in, and Parin found himself drawn to that warmth and positivity she always carried.
Did Parin Find his Mother?
Parin’s friends did some digging and found out that his mother was living in Tai O Village, a quiet little fishing village far from the city crowd. Parin decided to go there, asking Iris to come along for company. But things didn’t go as he planned. When they finally found her, his mother made it clear she wasn’t interested in returning. When Parin pressed her, she opened up and explained that her marriage to Parin’s father had been forced, and she had never been happy in it. That’s why she left Hong Kong—to live peacefully in Tai O with Ho Yin, the real love of her life.
Pimcham had always wanted to marry Ho Yin, but her family had other ideas. They rejected him without ever meeting him, deciding he wasn’t “good enough” because he’d left school early to help his father, who had fallen ill. Fortunately, in the end, fate brought Pimcham and Ho Yin back together. Parin did everything he could to change his mother’s mind, but she stood her ground. She also advised Parin to stop chasing wealth and status and instead, to look for true happiness in the people who mattered. “At the end of the day,” she told him, “it’s family and friends that count.” Finally, seeing how genuinely at peace she was with Ho Yin, Parin let go and understood that his mother had truly found her happiness.

Why Did Iris Left Hong Kong & Never Returned?
Over the next few weeks, Parin and Iris explored peaceful spots around Hong Kong, sharing childhood stories and talking about family, dreams, and everything in between. During one of these chats, Iris shared that her big dream is to open her own little café someday. Parin encouraged her to go for it, suggesting they rent a cozy spot somewhere quiet where she could finally take the plunge. Though nervous at first, Iris agreed when Parin offered to cover 60 percent of the initial cost. She quit her job, Parin decided not to leave Hong Kong, and together they found the perfect spot for her café. Parin even learned to make different teas and perfected pork buns. Over time, they not only built the café but also fell in love, becoming each other’s partners in both life and business.
Every morning, Parin and Iris would open their café, serving guests with smiles and warmth. By night, they’d sit around a campfire, dreaming up big plans for the future. But then, Parin’s world shattered. One day, Iris went back to the Philippines and just never returned. Parin tried everything to get in touch, but his calls went unanswered. Heartbroken, he had to face the hard truth that Iris wasn’t coming back. Eventually, he sold the café, left their little world behind, and began drifting from place to place, carrying only memories of the time he spent with Iris.
Under Parallel Skies (2024) Movie Ending Explained:
Why Did Iris Left Parin?
Turns out, Iris had an unfortunate reason for leaving Parin. She was sick, and her time was running out. She only returned to the Philippines not to abandon him but to spare him the pain of watching her fade away. So, she asked her twin sister, Thea, to go to Hong Kong and tell Parin the real reason why Iris never returned to Hong Kong. Thea explains that Iris didn’t want Parin to see her suffering. She wanted him to remember her as the vibrant, joyful woman he fell in love with, the one who lit up his world. Even the lovebirds Iris gifted him before she left were meant to keep him company, to remind him of the love they shared.
Learning of Iris’s passing completely breaks Parin. Yet, even with a shattered heart, he chose to honor her final wish by trying to be happy and keeping a smile on his face, just as Iris would’ve wanted. He agrees to join Thea on a trip through Hong Kong, so they can visit all the places and enjoy the foods Iris loved. As they talk about Iris, Parin invites Thea to be his drinking buddy for the night so they can raise a heartfelt toast in Iris’s memory.
